Welcome Cheryl... our newest Tutor!
We welcome our newest PMA Tutor!
Cheryl McCormick began teaching almost thirty years ago, first homeschooling her children, co-oping with other parents, and mentoring young women. Eventually, her work shifted to teaching and tutoring reading comprehension and writing at Lansing Community College.
Cheryl grew up in the Detroit area, in an irreligious, non-Christian family, in the heart of a large Jewish community. After a five-year battle with cancer, her mother came to Christ, which impacted the rest of the family. Cheryl surrendered to Christ in the spring of 1979 and went to Michigan State University (MSU) that fall, eager to share her new-found faith. Five years later, she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Communication and worked as a professional writer in the field of Public Relations prior to starting her family with her husband and best friend, Tim.
Cheryl’s tutoring strengths include:
a solid grasp of reading and writing strategies to help struggling students
adapting instruction to enhance student understanding of lessons and assignments
an extensive knowledge of English grammar and mechanics
understanding varied formatting used in different disciplines throughout academia
working with students who may need encouragement in developing stronger academic skills in reading comprehension and writing
In addition to teaching classes and tutoring, prior to retiring from LCC, Cheryl co-authored an online educational resource for students needing a refresher in reading and writing and helped high school students wishing to take their college entrance exams by facilitating a “boot camp” focused on test preparation.
