Artistic Pursuits - High School - 9:30am-11:00am

High School Course Description:

The Art 1 class will be using the book Artistic Pursuits, senior high edition. The first semester will cover elements of drawing and composition with an emphasis on European art. The second semester we will use the book Artistic Pursuits, Color and Composition with an emphasis on European art as well. We will be using a variety of different mediums in drawing and painting. The students will take a look at art work from various artists learning elements of art and composition both in monochromatic and color. The class will have two to three homework assignments per week. Grading is based on participation, attitude, completion of homework, quizzes, and tests. A grade percentage will be given based on these factors. Some topics covered in this course include:

SPACE
LINE
TEXTURE
FORM AND VALUE
COLOR
BALANCE
SCENERY, STILL LIFE, PORTRAIT DRAWING
PICTURE AND REAL LIFE STUDIES

Drawing pencils, 2h,hb,4b,5b,6b
One vinyl eraser
Metal handheld sharpener
Drawing pad (9x12) white
6-12 sticks vine charcoal
1pk of compressed charcoal
1 charcoal paper pad (9x12 or larger)
Blending stump
Kneaded eraser


Second half of the year High School SUPPLIES:
Watercolor set including the following colors:
       alizarin crimson, black, cadmium, yellow, ultramarine blue
Plastic palette
1 round watercolor brush #6, #10
1 flat watercolor brush, ½ inch
1 mop brush
1 roll artists tape
2 tablets watercolor paper(9ix12)
1 jar liquid frisket or masking fluid
1 jar cu  Arabic solution
